At the snap of the camera shutter, an
image is separated from the weighty world of mortal cares, and transported into
virtual perpetuity. All technologies liberate through
abstraction. Image technologies separate atom-thin
appearances from the complex material socio-political transhistorically meshed
contexts of the subject. As this atom-thin likeness is “freed” from
earthly cares, new dimensions of humanist experience begin to emerge, a world
of unfettered re-imagining. These exquisitely tiny bundles of
anthropomorphic media may course through wires and across the sky at the speed
of light, thrilling both subject and photographer alike with the promise of
human ingenuity.
